Emma Raducanu cruises into Wimbledon third round

British tennis star Emma Raducanu reached the third round of Wimbledon for the first time since her US Open triumph last year, with a comfortable straight-sets victory over Elise Mertens.

Raducanu, who won the US Open as a qualifier last year, has struggled for form and fitness in recent months, but she looked back to her best as she dispatched the Belgian 6-3, 6-3 on Court 12.

The 19-year-old broke Mertens' serve twice in each set, and she saved the only break point she faced in the match. Raducanu also hit 22 winners to Mertens' 12, and she made just 10 unforced errors to her opponent's 19.

The win will be a major boost to Raducanu's confidence, as she looks to rediscover her best form ahead of the US Open later this summer. She will face Caroline Garcia in the third round, who beat Magda Linette in three sets.
