Cause of death was complications
Family confirms passing
Morgan Spurlock, the filmmaker and former CNN series host whose McDonalds documentary Super Size Me was nominated for an Academy Award, has died at the age of 57. His brother Craig Spurlock confirmed the death in a statement to The Associated Press and said the cause was complications.
Spurlock's family confirmed his death in a statement. "It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our beloved brother Morgan," the statement said. "Morgan was a loving husband and father of three, and a gifted filmmaker who sparked important conversations about public health and consumerism. We will miss him dearly."
Spurlock was born in 1969 in Parkersburg, West Virginia. He attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and began his filmmaking career with a series of short films. In 2004, he released Super Size Me, a documentary about his experience eating nothing but McDonald's food for 30 days. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to raise awareness about the dangers of fast food. Spurlock went on to direct a number of other documentaries, including The Greatest Movie Ever Sold (2011) and Where to Invade Next (2016).
